UK CAU Inter Counties Cross Country Championships Report

Saturday 8th March saw the 2025 edition of the championships in Woolaton Park, Nottingham held in glorious sunny weather which was ideal for spectators but hard work for runners.

Suffolk County fielded teams in all age categories both male and female. Numbers on the coach provided by Suffolk Athletics were lower than normal but it arrived in good time before the first race. The Under 20 Men were first to start and set the bar high with an incredible performance by finishing 2nd in the team competition with a scoring 4 made up of Sidney Tilley in 8th, Max Fisher 16th, Luca Gambling 25th and Iwan Fothergill 53rd.

A summary of the results of the subsequent races (in the order they appeared in the race schedule) are below with notable performances highlighted:

  • Under 13 Girls – a fantastic 9th in the team competition with 5 runners in the top 100 led by India Johnson in 28th.
  • Senior Women – 21st in the team competition with Holly Fisher first back for the county in a very good 33rd place.
  • Under 15 Boys – 35th in the team competition, Mason Bramhald in 79th.
  • Under 17 Women – 25th in team competition, two in the top 100 (Isabel Moore 87th, Cerys Bithell 91st).
  • Under 17 Men – a strong 15th in the team competition with the soring 4 all in the top 100 led by Sebastian Melero in 43rd.
  • Under 13 Boys – a brilliant 14th in the team competition with Dexter Marshall our highest finishing runner of the day in 5th, strongly supported by Eli and Seth Bowman in the top 100.
  • Under 20 Women – only 3 runners so no team placing. Amelie Crabb first back for the county in 71st.
  • Under 13 Girls – 21st in the team competition led by Alice Keen with a great race in 29th.
  • Senior Men – 24th in the team competition, John Miller led the race during the first half and finished 15th.

Boys/Mens Cross Country Teams Manager, James Smith, in this role for the first time, is very proud to report that all teams started with the full complement of runners meaning a total of 41 runners in Boys/Mens crossed the start line. His thanks to Martyn Brophy for passing on his experience and Karin Mead for her amazing support before and during the event. His thanks also go to any club secretaries/captains who helped get hold of runners/reserves.
