What is Race Walking?
Race walking is a faster version of regular walking and is a recognised discipline of athletics, included in the Olympic Games. It is regulated by the IAAF and judged so that you maintain a good walking technique.
Race walking is basically an endurance event with all the concomitant benefits; The pulse and breathing are raised well above resting levels and kept there for considerable periods. It shares this cardiovascular benefit with running but has the advantage in that, because the rules of walking require the competitor to maintain contact with the ground, there is none of the jarring through the feet, ankles, knees and hips and spine that is the cause of many running injuries.
