Race Report

UK CAU Inter‑Counties Cross Country Championships 2026

Wollaton Park, Nottingham – Saturday 7 March 2026

Suffolk’s athletes put in an exceptional collective showing across all age groups at the 2026 Inter‑Counties Championships, held once again against the iconic backdrop of Wollaton Hall. With conditions muddier than last year and national‑level competition throughout the programme, Suffolk produced several top‑10 team finishes, standout individual results, and some of the county’s strongest junior depth in recent years.

Under 13 Girls (U13G)

Team result: 15th (318 points)
First Suffolk finisher: Chloe Berry – 5th
Top 100 finishers: 2

A superb performance from Chloe Berry, who delivered  the county’s highest placings of the entire day with an outstanding 5th place. Backed by team‑mates Millie McNeill, Harriet Waldron and Nisa May, the U13 girls produced a determined team run that placed them 15th nationally – a very strong mid‑table finish in a large field.

Other Suffolk representatives were Elissia Bell, Abbie Dockerill, Florence Knight and Erin Whiting.

Under 13 Boys (U13B)

Team result: 35th (690 points)
First Suffolk finisher: Percy Strachan – 60th
Top 100 finishers: 1

With a number of the team making their Suffolk debuts, Percy Strachan led the way to finish 60th in a very competitive field of over 300 runners. The scoring team was completed by Oliver Lee, Kingsley Davies and Finlay Weir who all put in great times over the 3k course.

The  U15 Girls race showed a strong team performance. Sophie Bolton led the squad home in 52nd, followed by Ella Knight, India Johnson and Alexandra McVittie, all finishing impressively inside the top 90. With all scorers inside the top 120, Suffolk secured a brilliant 5th place finish. This age group is clearly one of the strongest in Suffolk right now.

Other Suffolk representatives were Seth Bowman, Digby Pearson, Eli Bowman and Jack Davenport

Under 17 Women (U17W)

Team result: 27th (507 points)
First Suffolk finisher: Alice Keen – 61st

Scorers Alice Keen (61st), Romilly Adams (111th) , Ella Stewart (159th) and Tilly Woodbridge (176th) produced a strong scoring four. Their result placed Suffolk 27th, but with clear quality across the line up – a promising sign for next year’s squad.

Under 17 Men (U17M)

Team result: 🥉 3rd (114 points)
First Suffolk finisher: Samuel Blackwell – 10th
Top 100 finishers: 4

Suffolk’s standout team result of the entire championships came from the U17 Men, who stormed to an exceptional team bronze medal.
Samuel Blackwell led the way with a superb 10th place, supported brilliantly by Max Uttley (22nd), Alfie Jeffery (31st) and Mason Bramhald (51st).
Their combined performance earned Suffolk an amazing podium finish, underlining the strength and potential of this age group.

Under 20 Women (U20W)
Team result: No team score (fewer than 4 starters)
Suffolk finishers:

  • Lily Burton – 11th
  • Alice Griffiths – 134th

Although Suffolk did not field a full scoring team, Lily Burton’s outstanding 11th place ensured Suffolk were still a notable presence at the sharp end of the U20W race. A promising showing as she transitions into senior competition. Alice Griffiths also ran well for 134th place.

The senior men battled through one of the deepest fields of the day, with Matthew Snowdon securing a strong 39th place, backed by Michael Bartram, Oliver Hitchcock, Owen Rees, Chris Green and James Wilson to complete the scoring six. Their resilience earned Suffolk 20th place overall. Suffolk were also one of only nine county teams (finishing 8th) that got all 9 runners round the course.

Other Suffolk representatives were Seb Herrod, James Smith and Aden Bell.

Across nine championship races, Suffolk delivered:

  • 1 team medal (U17 Boys – Bronze)
  • Four top‑10 team finishes
  • Multiple top‑10 individual performances
  • Consistent depth across junior age groups
  • Breakthrough results for athletes stepping into higher age categories

This was one of Suffolk’s strongest all‑round Inter‑Counties performances in recent years with a number of teams improving on their positions from last year significantly, showcasing both developing talent and senior strength. A brilliant day for one of the traditionally smaller counties.

Team managers Karin Mead and James Smith would like to pass their thanks and appreciation to all the athletes who made the day a success. They are also grateful to club representatives who helped bring the teams together.
