National Coach Mentor wins awards double

The 2012 Suffolk Sports Awards saw local and national sporting stars and unsung heroes receive awards for their contributins to sport.  England Athletics' National Coach Mentor for Heavy throws - Malcolm Fenton -  was recognised as Suffolk Sports Coach of the Year.  This was in fact for the second year running; the first time this has happened.

Bill Tancred MBE, Chair of Suffolk Sport commented “We honoured our local unsung heroes who go about their sporting work in a selfless, tireless manor. By celebrating all these contributions I hope in some way they understand how truly grateful we all are for their amazing commitment and achievements each and every year."

Then, whilst attending the Hammer Circle Reunion recently, Malcolm was presented with the rarely given, Howard Payne Trophy, for outstanding services to Hammer Throwing.  Presented by Howard Payne in 1981, the trophy is awarded intermittently for the person adjudged to have made a major contribution to the Hammer event.

I think this recognition from my peers is an endorsement to England Athletics'coach strategy." commented Malcolm.  England Athletics' Head of Coaching Richard Wheater told us, "It's outstanding news and well deserved."
